Each of the pages gives a guide to the visibility of the Moon,
planets and to solar system events during the month.
Details given on this site mostly apply to the Southern
Hemisphere, especially for places with a similar latitude to New
Zealand.
Diagrams of the relative apparent sizes of the planets in 2009 and 2010 show how the sizes as seen from the Earth compare and how they vary during the year.
Diagrams for the 2009 orbits and 2010 orbitsshow the positions of the planets in their orbits round the Sun.
A summary of the visibility of the planets throughout the year, and times of rising and setting of the Sun, Moon and planets throughout the year can also be found on the LINZ astronomical information web pages as PDF files.
