New Zealand Astrophotography Competition
New Zealand Astrophotgraphy Competition is New Zealand’s leading annual astrophotography competition. It is undertaken jointly by RASNZ’s Affiliated Society, the Auckland Astronomical Society, and RASNZ.
The 2022 competition was managed by RASNZ Astrophotography Section Director, Amit Kamble. The competition was judged by Alyn Wallace, arguably one of the world's top astro, landscape, and time-lapse photographers. Alyn's work has been recognized by NASA, National Geographic, the BBC, and The Times and he is the author of the book "Photographing the Night Sky".
This year a record breaking over 300 high quality entries were received and the results of the competition were announced at the Auckland Astronomical Society’s annual Burbidge dinner on 29 October 2022.
Amit Kamble, one of New Zealand’s leading astrophotographers whose work has been recognised by NASA, helped with the selection of the images for RASNZ 2023 calendar from the main categories of the competition viz. deep-sky, nightscape and solar system. The cover image of the calendar is the winner of the deep-sky category and also the overall winner of the 2022 competition.
