Astronomy opportunity - Maui Astronomy Research Seminar

Telescopes on the summit of Haleakalā

The RASNZ have received an invitation for our members to participate in the Maui Astronomy Research Seminar, a hybrid Zoom/Maui in-person research team of amateur astronomers, college students, and professional instructors that is discovering new binary stars. The seminar consists of six one-hour evening Zoom sessions followed by a three-day in-person research workshop February 21-23, 2026, in Maui, Hawaii, that includes a tour of Haleakalā summit telescopes. Participants will analyze original speckle interferometry observations of Gaia two-parameter stars obtained at Mt. Wilson Observatory and contribute as coauthors to a peer-reviewed research paper.

The two attached files give further information should you wish to register. Registration for the Seminar is through Gila Community College as outlined at the very end of the announcement. Also attached is a paper about to be sent off for publication that describes our overall research program.
