SWAPA 2026

RASNZ SWAPA 2026

In 2026 the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RASNZ) is holding its annual conference in Blenheim, 15 to 17 May 2026. More information about this conference can be found on the conference website https://www.rasnzconference.org.nz/.

To be considered for a SWAPA scholarship, students must complete and submit the application form that is available from this link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe19NEVEihFfsiRD1602VEPswE8fOmX0BTw9xOURwn9hkT7tw/viewform?usp=publish-editor

This submission must include a short statement of no more than 300 words explaining why the student is interested in astronomy and would like to attend the conference.

The conference is most suited to those in years 11, 12 or 13. Students’ essays will be

assessed for demonstrating astronomical knowledge and enthusiasm, and for good

English (grammar and spelling). Preference will be given to more senior students (i.e.

year 13), but those in lower years are still encouraged to apply.

The application form must be submitted not later than Friday 10 April 2026 at 5 pm

Those who win a SWAPA scholarship will be notified by email on or before 17 April 2026. Winners are expected to be able to come to and take part in the conference. They will receive detailed instructions to prepare their trip to the conference.

RASNZ will appoint two vetted minders who will meet arriving SWAPA students

and will ensure their safety and wellbeing during the entire conference from the point of arrival until the point of departure.

The SWAPA organisers can be contacted via swapa@rasnz.org.nz.
